i have a bunch..im real good at speaking engagements.
practice the intro - first 5-10 lines - make sure those are fluid and seamless especially if its a joke or something in there.
depending on how big your audiance is(?) either pick a point to stare at infrequently or literally move your head frm side to side scanning the entire room.
Watch your enounciation - speak slower if it means you sound cleaner and crisper.
Enjoy Yourself!! - remember at this point you have more information then the audiance does - so teach them but dont be a cocky prick.

1:Find a window or a wall behind the people and look at that so they think that you are looking at them but you are not and can't see them so there is less pressure.
2:hold something in your hand that you can squeeze to relive pressure and focus on.
3:Use a lower register of your voice to sound more bold, courageous, and confident.
I did forensics for many years and figured out these tips.

Don't lock your knees. Drink plenty of water.

Always face audience. You never want to go ass to mouth in any situation, and public speaking is no exception.

Be aware time will seem to pass more slowly for you than for the audience, and you'll tend to try to rush through things. A little pause here and there will seem like an eternity to you, but really isn't. Take the pauses (better than saying "you know, um, like, you know, etc.") and keep breathing. Best of luck!

Breathe.
Deep breaths. And if you feel yourself losing your breath, just take a second, take a drink, take a breath, and continue.

Just a note...I've found that having something in my hand when speaking before groups gives me something to fidget with, and that distracts their attention from me to my hands. Anytime I've had to speak to a group, I've had to make sure NOT to have something in my hands.
Obviously, YMMV. I liked the other tips, though.

All of these have been proven at spelling bees and forensic meets and work perfectly.

I feel that it makes you seem important if you are using a pen to do hand gestures.

Fair enough. My last public-speaking engagement was to a room full of my company's managers. I know and have a good relationship with all of them, but was still nervous about it. Because it was an informative session regarding a software upgrade, I did the majority of it from behind a laptop with them watching the projected image behind me, so my hands were busy already and I didn't have time to fidget.
